![]() ![]() In an effort to help him recover from his depression, he was persuaded to spend the next two years in America, during which time he wrote A Poet in New York, published posthumously. Lorca was just emerging from a period which had seen great acclaim for his Romancero gitano ('Gypsy Ballads'), mixed with personal sadness and depression following his estrangement from Dalí and Buñuel, and the breakdown of his love affair with the sculptor Aladrén Perojo. He is thought to have first met Lorca in 1928, when Zalamea travelled to Spain in his capacity as Commercial Advisor to the Legación Colombiana. Zalamea (1905-1969) was a Colombian writer and diplomat, author of anti-dictatorship satirical prose works, poems, dramas, novels, translations and essays.
